Abdi Cadani
London based DoP|Cameraman

Abdi Cadani is a multi-Emmy award-winning lighting cameraman and director of photography with over 20 years’ experience shooting news, news-documentary, and long-form interviews around the world.
He is best known for creating consistently powerful, cinematic images in demanding, real-world conditions, whether working as an operator in a conflict zone or leading a six-camera shoot for a world-exclusive interview.
His approach places a strong emphasis on trust, calm decision-making, and empathy for his subjects, alongside close attention to lighting and composition, particularly when access is limited or the subject matter is complex.
His amicable nature, ability to work under pressure, and instinct for problem-solving and collaboration are among his strongest non-technical qualities.
Decades of international newsgathering have shaped his visual style and approach. He allows the story to determine the tools, scale, and method required, whether that is a short social media piece, a news package, or an extended prime-time network special.
He is experienced across the full production workflow, including filming, sound, drone operation, editing, and live transmission. He holds a foundation degree from Ravensbourne College in Broadcast Operations and Production, and an MA in Applied Storytelling from Loughborough University.
